Surface Area
Interior and exterior surface area
What is surface area?
Surface area is the total area the surface of an object occupies, it can be interior, or exterior of the object.
Why is this important?
MOFs have an incredibly high internal surface area. This significantly increases the amount of energy they can absorb, as it maximises the level of water intrusion into the MOFs’ pores.
Did you know?
MOFs’ nanoporous nature greatly increases its internal surface area. In fact, MOFs have the highest internal surface area of all crystalline materials. With a surface area of up to 10,000 m2/g, a single gram of MOF can cover an entire football field!
Our group is investigating the use of compressible liquids as reusable energy absorbers.
